From the moment Sunday night's game between the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions ended, 49ers offensive tackle Joe Staley has been expressing negative opinions about the Lions defensive line to anyone with a microphone. In the locker room after the 49ers' win, Staley told CSN Bay Area, "Look at the game. We killed them. Every single pressure they got was cheap. It was on a keep or something like that. They weren't beating us one on one. We ran for about 200 yards on the so-called best D-line in all of football." Staley went on say Detroit's front four has never impressed him and called the unit "extremely" overrated. On Monday morning, Staley called in for a weekly radio segment. Early in the interview, he almost sounded apologetic for the comments. "I may have got carried away a little bit," Staley told 95.7 The Game. "It was a tough battle and my emotions were running high. I have a lot of respect for them as players. I knew it was going to be a great challenge going into that week." But as the hosts egged him on, Staley restated his sentiments from the night before, implying the Lions are a dirty team out to injure their opponents. "It kind of carried over from last season," he said. "We felt they were guys that fly around, try to push you into piles and injure guys that way. They take a lot of cheap shots that way and try to intimidate you. We knew they were going to try to do that --we watch it on film every week how they play -- so we came out early in the first quarter and kind of got after them, let them know we're not intimidated by them and their foul play and that we're going to come after them for all 60 minutes." Nuts, Staley really doesn't need to talk crap, their play tells the story. I can still remember doing so bad that even the way the Lions played looked better than some of our teams have done. It's week 2, chill and enjoy the wins but shut up about the other teams players.
Well, as much as I don't like him talking this way, he's right. They are way over rated, not to mention dirty as hell.
