Michael Crabtree demonstrated his football smarts by picking up the offense quickly enough for the 49ers to start him at wide receiver in his first NFL game Sunday. Although the 49ers left Reliant Stadium with a 24-21 defeat, they could not be more pleased with the performance of Crabtree off precious little time with the offense. He started at split end and was on the field for 48 of San Francisco's 54 offensive plays, finishing with five catches for 56 yards. "Do I think he did a great job today?" head coach Mike Singletary said. "Absolutely. He did a heck of a job. I'm sure he did a lot of things wrong. The bottom line is, when he had the chance to make plays he made them. You're talking about a guy that's been working his tail off and hasn't been at camp, and he came in today and it seemed like he had been here a while."

Yes, it was a good debut. I hope he continues to play well for us, I was quite bothered with his attitude over the contract fiasco but if he plays well for us, I can forgive and forget..

In just one game he's already almost matched Raiders rookie wide receiver Darius Heyward-Bey's stats.....ouch!

    DHB: 4 catches, 64 yards

    Crabtree: 5 catches, 56 yards

Not fast enough for Al Davis :icon_cheesygrin:

The catches he made were on post, crossing, or hook routes, they didn't throw to him deep.

He should have another catch for another 22 yards but Josh Morgan who Crabrtree replaced had a really dumb illegal motion penalty.

all in all i was impressed, i really think it was just the beginning, he'll do good things there especially after the confidence boost of not only being handed the starting spot mid season but making the most out of it and producing

    Really impressive hands........:icon_eek:

It's only promises for now, but it's better than a crapty first game (tribute to DHB and Al davis:icon_cheesygrin:)
