The 49ers have re-signed well-traveled Eric Bakhtiari and, fittingly, considering the outside linebacker’s transaction history, he will be in Santa Clara on a temporary basis.

Bakhtiari, 27, who has been released nine times since Sept. 23, 2008, will fill in for outside linebacker Clark Haggans, who was suspended by the NFL on Tuesday for three games in connection to a DUI arrest in 2011. Haggans also had a DUI in 2004.

Bakhtiari led the team in sacks (2.5) and ranked second in tackles (14) during the preseason before he was among the final roster cuts on Aug. 31. This will be the Burlingame native’s fourth stint with 49ers after spending time on their practice squad in 2008 and ’10.

“Obviously we liked Eric a lot when he was here,â€￾ said Jim Harbaugh, who coached Bakhtiari at the University of San Diego. “The effort he gave and what he did in the preseason. And excited to have him back on the field today.â€￾
