Just hours after the Santa Clara City Council said it was happy with a tentative deal to build a new stadium, 49ers owner Jed York was talking up the economic benefits of the deal, and the concessions his team accepted to make it happen. "It's a good deal for both parties. It's less than we originally asked for," York said Wednesday of the subsidy to come from the city's redevelopment agency and from new taxes on hotel guests. "I think it's something the voters will be very supportive of." While declining to disclose the fine print in the stadium package the City Council completed late Tuesday, York did say the city subsidy would be capped, meaning the 49ers would take the risk if redevelopment agency tax revenues fall short. According to multiple sources familiar with the term sheet, there will be a surcharge or fee on some stadium events and those revenues will go into a fund to provide a firewall for the city's general fund, should stadium revenues fall short. So 49er fans pay twice...the teams no longer in the city of its name..but now they pay surcharge fees on tickets that are bound to increase in price already... Better put a winner on the field before you start trying to stick fans for extra costs or this whole thing could blow up in your face..
