The Cowboys have decided to release left tackle Flozell Adams, according to his agent, Jordan Woy. Signed to a five-year extension in 2008, Adams was the final link to the Triplets - Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin and Emmitt Smith - as the Cowboys look to get younger in protecting Tony Romo's blindside either with Doug Free or a draft pick. "He has enjoyed his time in Dallas with his teammates and the Cowboys' organization," Woy said. "Now it is time to move on to a new team. Flo feels he has several good years in front of him." A second-round pick in 1998, Adams was named to the Pro Bowl five times with the last coming in 2008. Source: Dallas Morning News
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Saintsfan1972 again. I'm torn on this. Flozell hasn't been a bright spot on their line for awhile, but he wasn't dog crap either. They are dumping a very experienced player. It'll be interesting to see how this shakes out this year.
This move makes absolutely no sense if we draft an Offensive lineman in the first round. You create a hole by releasing him, only to fill it with a very valuable first round pick. I'd compare to the Seahawks goobered move when they got rid of Julian Peterson for basically nothing, creating a hole, and then using the 4th overall pick on Aaron Curry whom they wouldn't have needed if they kept Peterson. Flozell was great while here. Wish we would have held onto him but I do understand this move. Left Tackle is a position you don't really want to heck with.
I seriously hope they shopped Adams first before cutting. He is old, but still a quality LT capable of playing at an elite level. I's guessing Free is on deck
