Some have suggested the coach the New Orleans Saints missed most this past season was Gregg Williams, the ex-defensive coordinator who was suspended indefinitely by the NFL for his role in the team’s bounty scandal. Steve Spagnuolo was hired to replace Williams and the Saints were poor defensively and now an unnamed player has shredded Spagnuolo in comments to Larry Holder of the New Orleans Times-Picayune. The player believes coach Sean Payton should fire Spagnuolo when he returns from his own suspension. New Orleans was 31st in points allowed, last in run defense and 31st vs. the pbutt. It was bad all the way around. “To give up what we gave up can't be all talent. Look at where his units (have) been ranked before. I think one top 10?†the player told Holder. “Players have no say in anything. It was (a) complete opposite from before where it was a simple D that players had lot of control and say. We couldn't suggest (expletive) ... Nothing ever changed. It was his way only. "Don't even get me started on lack (of) ability to adjust during games. Bad, bad, bad." The player slammed Spagnuolo personally too. "He does have that good-guy persona, but he is a control freak and treats people like crap," the player said. "(Spagnuolo has) no patience and zero personality. (He) has a way of pissing players and our defensive coaches off with how he says and does things. (I) think it's even harder after having Gregg, who guys enjoyed." Source: National Football Post
hahahahaha....gotta love these anonymous sources. to me anonymous source = reporter stretching for a story
never heard of any of that crap when he was in New York or Philly. Either the player(s) are just too lazy to have a tough coach or the writer is just trying to kick the Saints when they are down. It isn't the coach, it is the players. They sucked during Gary Gibb's time, the last dude, and Spags. Never been higher than 18th but mostly in the low 20's like 27th. The players suck. They should back up to the coach to receive their game checks so they don't have to look him in the face.
Wonder who this player is, or if it even matters. May be a bench player, or a player on his way out. The way I see it, Saints have a few guys on the defense that is worth a damn. The safeties. Greer. Lofton. Vilma. And a couple of the younger guys. I really like Martez Wilson as a pass rusher. I think Spags can be better than Williams but we have to have the players. And, they need to run plays based on our strengths. That said, the players NEED to strive to be better, they need to work. Period.
I think they have depended on Brees to bail them out so much they have gotten somewhat lazy on defense. I mean they play but they slacked on the fundamentals like coverage and tackling. I hate to be a defensive player at mini camp or training camp.
