With two years remaining on Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin's contract, president Art Rooney II told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review on Friday that he hopes the coach is with the team "for the long term." Tomlin's current deal is guaranteed through 2012 with an option for 2013. "Our coach's contract is something we don't really try to speculate on what might happen," Rooney said. "We're obviously very happy with Mike and the job he's doing and we hope he's going to be here for the long term and I think I'm comfortable in saying that will be the case." The last time Tomlin signed an extension, in 2010, it was with one guaranteed year and one option year left on his original contract. NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reported at the time that the deal paid $5 million per year, citing a league source.
