Braves left-hander Paul Maholm has been scratched from his scheduled Friday start against the Padres and sent back to Atlanta to undergo an MRI on his throwing elbow, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Maholm experienced soreness following his start last Sunday against the Phillies and was slated for the MRI on Wednesday. This season, Maholm, age 31, has pitched to a 4.35 ERA (89 ERA+), 1.42 K/BB ratio and 2.04 K/BB ratio in 140 2/3 innings. Maholm has dealt with shoulder issues in past seasons, but this is the first time he's had significant elbow problems as a pro. The Braves of course are already without Tim Hudson for the remainder of 2013, and Brandon Beachy is also on the DL with elbow inflammation. Source: CBS Sports
