The Bears claimed defensive end David Bass off waivers from the Oakland Raiders and they will have to make a corresponding roster move to clear space for the rookie. Bass was a seventh-round draft pick of the Raiders and made three tackles when the Bears played at Oakland in the third preseason game. Quarterback Jerrod Johnson, a Texas A&M product who has bounced around the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks, and also played in the defunct UFL, was signed to develop behind Jay Cutler and Josh McCown. Five players that were released were re-signed: tight end Fendi Onobun, cornerback Demontre Hurst, linebacker Jerry Franklin, defensive lineman Aston Whiteside and running back Harvey Unga. Wide receiver Ricardo Lockette, who was also part of the tryout that includes the quarterbacks, was also signed. Source: Chicago Tribune
