Defensive tackle Nate Collins will explore the open market before he decides whether to return to the Chicago Bears on what he figures will be a one-year offer.

Collins, who was a part of the defensive tackle rotation for nine games last season, said the team is not going to tender him as a restricted free agent, news first reported by ESPNChicagocom. That means Collins will be free to sign elsewhere beginning at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

“Absolutely there is a chance I will be back,†Collins said. “I love our defense in Chicago. I love the guys I played around and I learned a lot in the last year. I think that they’re going to offer me a one-year minimum (contract) again. I’m going to weigh my options over the next few days, see if someone else wants to offer a multi-year (deal). See what options could be out there for me.

“I know there are a lot of things money-wise the Bears have to do to keep the defense in place. I’m not feeling pressured. I’m going to take my time and we’ll wait to see what happens after Tuesday when teams can offer contracts.â€
