Bears safety Brandon Meriweather said he received a $20,000 fine for a helmet-to-helmet hit on receiver Steve Smith in last Sunday’s win over Carolina according to Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune. Meriweather was not flagged on the third-quarter play but did lead with his head. Smith absorbed the hit and kept running for a 22-yard gain. He said he plans to appeal the fine. Last season while with New England Patriots, Meriweather was fined $50,000 for two helmet-to-helmet hits on Baltimore Ravens tight end Todd Heap. Source: The Red Zone
