Finally, the Bears will be able to get to the business on the field after a blockbuster offseason that some called the best in the league. But the Washington Redskins have been able to call themselves the big offseason winners in late July a lot the last few years, and it has done them little good when it mattered. Acquiring Cutler was the boldest move, but the Bears made a series of moves that made it clear they're in it for the now. ''I can't say we had the best offseason of any team,'' coach Lovie Smith said. ''I don't know what other teams have done. I just know we feel like we have improved in a lot of areas at this stage, but I don't think you can get too high or too low right now. I'm anxious to see this next phase. We get pads on, and then we'll find out a little bit more. I've seen our team when we have been in shorts before, and I like this team. ''Jay is a bonus. But take Jay out of the equation -- and I know a lot of people's excitement is for him -- [and] I am excited about Orlando Pace, Pisa and seeing our defense come back. Matt Forte is in his second year. I'm excited about Greg Olsen and his role. Just normal growth from some of our marquee core players.'' Source: Chicago Sun Times
