Pro Football Weekly has learned from league sources that the Bears terminated the contract late Monday of seven-time Pro Bowl OT Orlando Pace. Pace had two years left on the three-year, $15 million deal he signed with the Bears before the 2009 season and was scheduled to make a base salary of $3.75 million in 2010 to go with a $250,000 workout bonus. Pace, who has been contemplating retirement since mid-December, was replaced as the starting left tackle by former first-round draft pick Chris Williams with five games remaining this past season. Not a shocker... Pace has nothing left in the tank anyway. I'd be shocked if another team picked him up.
Retire NOW is what Pace should do. Before the Bears signed him last offseason, I was only expecting one, maybe a two year contract at the most. I was weary when it was a 3 year $15 million contract knowing how injury prone Pace has been the past few years.
