The Chicago Bears have agreed to terms with tight end Michael Gaines on a one-year contract. "When I got there, money pretty much went out the window," said Gaines, whose contract terms were not immediately disclosed. "It was all about handling business and just winning. And everything was so relaxed, no pressure. Coach Lovie Smith really respects you as a man.'' The Bears were looking for a blocking tight end, and Gaines fills that need. The Bears also intend to use him at fullback in certain situations. Source: Chicago Tribune
the only reason the bears would do this when they already have 4 or 5 tight ends on the roster is that they know clark and olsen will be lining up in the slot quite a bit this year as receivers because they're deficient in the wide receiving arena so they're going to need some depth in the blocking TE and short yardage situations if they're planning on using clark and olsen more in slot formations. and this may be the smartest thing they can do because clark and olsen are probably the best receivers/route runners on their roster.
oh, yeah, i guess it says that in the article. i didn't even read it. the article DOESN'T make the incredibly astute observation that you will see clark and olsen lining up more in the slot because of their receiver deficiencies though ............... :icon_cheesygrin: ............. you can only get that kind of valuable information from me .............
uuummm correct me if im wrong but during a bears/lions game this year he fumbled the ball away ending the game........
