After losing corner/nickle back Kelvin Hayden to a season ending injury, we speculated that the Chicago Bears would look at pick up a potential veteran replacement. Earlier today they did so by adding 8 year veteran Derrick Martin.

Martin is billed as a safety, but he has played nickle, and he has special teams experience as well. The 5' 10" 180 pound Martin only played in five games last season for the Patriots, but in 2011 he appeared in 14 games for the Giants.

To make room for Martin, the Bears waived safety Cyhl Quarles.
