Bengals WR Terrell Owens Not Sure He’ll Be In HOF

Bengals WR Terrell Owens himself isn't looking beyond this year and even skipped a full-blown tour of the Hall of Fame this weekend, preferring to postpone it until his career is over and he can enjoy it with his children. Will he have a bust in the Hall by that point? "People they tend to say well, 'You're gonna be here one day,' " Owens said. "Of course, from a statistics standpoint, then yeah, I'll be here. "But there are going to be a lot of things that probably factor into that. A lot of people are probably going to bring up reputation, character, things of that nature, and honestly, I could really care less. When I started playing this game, football wasn't my first love - I didn't have that passion the way some guys grew up to have that passion for the game of football. My passion was basketball, and I think God has put me in a position and gave me enough gifts and talents to play the game. "So I basically just kept working at it, working at it and things happened for me. So if I get in, I get in; if I don't, I don't. It's not a big deal. I think that the best thing for me is just to really be proud of what I've accomplished being that I almost quit football when I was in high school."

i think if he doesnt get in its entirely espns fault for blowing every single move he makes into a soap opera and labeling him a team cancer....thats just how i feel, he easily has hall credentials

Agreed and in my opinion, he SHOULD be in the hall. He can't stop opening his mouth or having some stupid antics on the field, but he never gets in trouble with the law and his play on the field has been amazing, even now if you look at his age.

I could see him getting the Ricky Watters treatment and we still have to see how he finishes his career but so far I say he should be there one day....with an asterisk about all the stupid crap he did while he was putting up those numbers.

Given his numbers, he should be in the HOF. He may not get there as soon as he is eligible, but I think he'll make it one day.

he's top 5 in just about every stat. that's HOF material.

the HOF doesn't view WR's very highly. T.O. may have a hard time getting in and it won't have anything to do with his character. the HOF just doesn't like WR's.

thats whats gonna be said for alot of guys....not TO, the hall will like TO

um, i think there will be riots in various cities if T.O. gets in before Cris Carter, Tim Brown, Andre Reed, and Isaac Bruce, who are just as deserving, if not more, and in the cases of Carter, Brown, and Reed, have been shunned multiple times by the HOF committee.

If those 4 guys get in, THEN I think it makes sense to start talking about T.O.

yeah see it is guys like issac bruce that the hall doesnt like, and guys like hines ward (no chance)

chris carter should be in but i really wouldnt be surprised if TO gets in even before him

    TO>>>>>Chris carter

and TO is still playing 1-2 more years

realistically TO is better than all those guys that are getting and will get ignored by the hall and hes a household name

carter will get in no doubt. as will reed and brown. issue is the way guys are inducted. it's stupid and outdated but make no mistake, owens will get in.

wow ...... :icon_eek: i disagree with those statements emphatically.

    1) You must be younger if you think T.O. is more of a household name than Cris Carter, Andre Reed and Tim Brown were in their prime. Those 3 were huge names in their primes. The only 'extra' headlines that T.O. gets over what those guys got are for negative reasons, which doesn't add any household name recognition among football fans. People who follow the nfl know the players that are great, whether they are creating negative headlines for themselves or not.

    2) And even if T.O. was equally talented and gave as much effort on the field as those other guys, I don't recall those other guys getting booted repeatedly from multiple teams. Carter got booted from his first team when he was young and stupid but then got his crap together. T.O. has been a bad teammate and bad influence to multiple teams/teammates and that has to knock him down a few rungs even if he is just as talented and gave as much effort.

From a legacy/HOF standpoint, T.O.'s self-created negativity will hurt his chances.

that is such an espn induced opinion

i never said those guys werent great, and i never said they werent better people than TO.

They will all get in, but i think TO wont have to wait nearly as long

    huh? i rarely watch espn.

i'm basing my opinion on the facts that the dude has ripped almost every QB he's ever played for. he's ripped almost every organization he's ever played for. he's ripped almost every head coach he's ever played for. and he's ripped offensive teammates he's played with. As far as I'm concerned (regardless of what ESPN or any media outlet says), that makes him a bad influence/bad teammate.

Agent Zero I rode the short bus

T.O. will be in the HOF. That is like saying Randy Moss wont make it.. It will be interesting to see when he gets in though. First ballot??? Most likely not, just because he doesn't have a ring. Now if by some miracle the Bengals win the SB, T.O. will be a first ballot HOF.

And a little side note.. If and this is a HUGE if.. If the Bengals win the SB I am calling for T.O. to retire like the Bus did.(Bettis is one of my favorite all time players btw) Call it out during the celebration.. just my .02

  20. 86WARD

    86WARD -

He's Hall of Fame worthy. Unfortunately, like K Train said, the media attention is what could potentially keep him out. His speech and the tears that come with it could be epic. He'll eclipse both Irvin and Emmitt combined!!

I think many more players than not would say T.O. was a great teammate...he may not of been a great "employee" as far as attitude, but his production can't be argued with.
