It's been 50 years in the making, but the Lions are certain they've found a passer for the ages in Matthew Stafford. "I think Matthew is terrific," Bill Ford Jr., the Lions' vice chairman, told the team's official website this week. "I wouldn't trade Matthew for any quarterback in the league, given his age. The guy is 23 years old, he just had a 5,000-yard season, the players love him, he's a great young man off the field and yeah, I hope Matthew is the face of this franchise for many years to come." I wouldn't either. When you factor in his talent and age there's no QB in the league I'd rather have for the future. Ford just has to be sure to stock up on OLinemen.
duh? he has a 23-year old QB who looks to be the next great QB in this league ........... why would you trade him for anything?
Now, if only we could get some lineman and a running game to help him out, oh and a secondary... then that would be great. Also, this kid needs to stay healthy.
haha. you listed like half of your roster .......... i think you have some runners there if you could add a couple more good linemen to shore up the running game ......... and, yes, you could use some good pieces in the secondary......... but i don't think the lions are too many pieces away from being pretty complete.
Getting Mikel LeShoure back next year should help immensely in the running game. That pass defense will be their achilles heel though. They need to fix that.
If we lose Best, which im counting on... I fear we draft another RB high instead of getting younger on our OLINE and or helping out our secondary or grabbing a good LB. I'm just sick of drafting RB's high... The past two seasons we've drafted one in the first and second rounds and neither have been able to stay healthy.
Others have said it but this team, although fun to watch, won't really go anywhere without major upgrades at OL/DB, and LB to a lesser degree.
and I agree with that. Our Oline is a joke, no matter what our coaches say. Jeff Backus can't stop a speed rusher and Dominic Raolia can't block or make a hole for a running game to save his life. I don't care how smart you are, but if you can't do these things your a waste. Injuries killed us in the secondary and LB's towards the end of the season, I liked Tulloch but he really dropped off in production at the end of the season for a tackling machine. Way too many times did I see him not stop a guy from getting 4 yards to stop a first down. Our safteys love to do that "I'm going to run into you really hard and not tackle you properly" thing and our CB's played well at the start of the season then teams started to figure out how to burn us. You can only put a band-aid on these things for so long before professionals pick you apart and carve you up.
