Bill Parcells told Sports Illustrated on Monday that he doesn't believe he'll return to coaching, amid reports that he could take over the New Orleans Saints on an interim basis. "Do I have the bug?" Parcells said. "I don't think so." Parcells said he has passed on two opportunities to coach again since leaving the Dallas Cowboys in 2006. Saints coach Sean Payton planned to talk with Parcells about having the Hall of Fame finalist fill in as the team's head coach for the upcoming season, Fox Sports insider and NFL Network contributor Jay Glazer reported Monday. Payton was suspended by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for the entire 2012 season for his role in the team's "bounty" scandal. A league source told NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora that the Saints were considering bringing on Parcells, but that it was unlikely the team would hire him. Source: NFL.com
Interesting point. But about Parcells, would he really have to have the same 'bug' to take on a one year gig? It's a pretty finite commitment with Payton almost surely coming back, at least as it seems now.
Bigger question, will this reset the HOF clock for Parcells? This was his first year eligible and he missed out. He coaches another year does that mean he has to wait another 5? But what exactly does the coaching "bug" feel like? Itching and redness?
Payton is also from his coaching tree, so while I couldnt see him doing it anywhere else, I could see him doing it for one of his guys. Especially if it gives him a legit shot at the elusive Super Bowl Without Billicheck Sent by HTC Vivid using Tapatalk
