Bill Polian says the 18-game NFL season is a done deal. During Monday night's weekly radio show, the Indianapolis Colts' president called it a "fait accompli" and said the debate is over. Polian is a member of the league's competition committee and has worked in the league office. Polian is concerned that getting rid of two preseason games to expand the regular season from 16 to 18 games will cost coaches and team officials opportunities to evaluate rookies. The solution, Polian said, might be hooking up with nearby teams for combined practices or controlled scrimmages.

I'm sure that will retire a lot of good players then.

Terrible decision. 18-game schedule is not needed, at all. Caldwell says he'll lobby for bigger rosters, but still, this is just greed at its finest.

Perhaps we all know something you don't.

If it isn't broke, don't try to fix it with your fat, greedy fingers. Owners will regret this if it comes to be. The game is more popular than it has ever been and they are going to heck with it.

Why heck with somethin that's a perfect formula right now? No one really wants this but the owners and some fans, most fans know that this will shorten careers of potentially great players, ruin chances for you to see more Tom Brady's, or more Jeff Saturday's. They're cutting OTAs down if the season gets expanded which means there's less chances for UDFAs to show what they've got. If a guy like Peyton Manning is against this, then you know there may be a problem here.

They're going to expand rosters if this happens, so the only real plus side is that now more and more people are going to get shots at rosters

This also means 2 more pointless game for teams that are sitting at 4-12 or 13-3 after 17 weeks.

Right, you'll have teams like Indy sitting their players for 2, 3, maybe even 4 weeks leading into the playoffs. I love football and would love to have more games to watch since my team will never make the playoffs ever, but this will heck crap up badly for many reasons.

Waaaaaaaaahhhh! Oh the records! Oh the injuries! WAAAAAHHH I like it how it is and I fear change. Wahhhhh.

For the majority of teams in the majority of cases this will take 2 meaningless garbage preseason games away and give us 2 more weeks of real best team wins hard nose football. Quit your snitching and get on board or go watch baseball where they can play 160+ games and not get hurt.

This is just another reason why there possibly won't be an NFL season in 2011. The players will want more money because they'll be playing more games, but the cheapskate owners won't want to give it to them.
