Bills SS Donte Whitner confirmed that he and his people are in talks about a new contract, a move that would keep him off the free-agent market in 2011. Whitner said talks have been ongoing for more than a month and he's hopeful a deal will be struck to keep him in Buffalo, which made him the eighth overall pick in the 2006 draft. Having been selected that high, Whitner felt instant pressure to be an impact player. While he's never made a Pro Bowl, he's been a strong team leader and seems to be developing on an up-tick under the team's new coaching regime that brought in the 3-4 scheme. He's second on the team in tackles with 110, his third season with at least 100 tackles. Source: USA Today
