The Buffalo Bills could be without safety Jairus Byrd for the first couple of weeks of the regular season because of a plantar fasciitis injury, NFL.com. reports.

The website reports that Byrd dealt with the same injury last season but took “a coupleâ€￾ of shots to get through the year.

Byrd did not play the entire preseason after holding out of training camp in hopes of getting a long-term deal with the team.

The Bills slapped Byrd with a one-year franchise tender, worth $6.916 million and he finally signed the tender two weeks ago.

“I need to be good to go before I step out there,â€￾ Byrd said this week. “Once my body allows me to be out there and be at 100 percent ready to play, I’ll go.â€￾

Byrd is coming off a season in which he had 79 tackles, five interceptions, and four forced fumbles.
