Count The Count among most who have a vested interested in mixed martial arts who do not want to see UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva to retire anytime soon. The Spider has mentioned numerous times that his plan is to finish his six-fight contract with the UFC and retire by the age of 35, which would be sometime in 2009. Bisping is heating up the 185-pound division with three consecutive wins, including a unanimous decision win over Chris Leben at UFC 89 last weekend. Source: MMA Mania
The more Bisping speaks, the more I dislike him. I know he's got good overall talent, but he's not close to the top 2 at 185 (Anderson, Hendo). He'd probably be in for a tough fight against Marquardt and Okami as well. After Bisping's boasting after getting his asswhooped and gifted the decision against Hamil, I have a very tough time liking him and seeing his points objectively. I know every fighter wants a shot at the belt, but Bisping needs to beat either Okami/Marquardt then Hendo before getting his shot imo. That's IF Anderson is even still champ.
Agreed Garnett, I didn't like him from his time on TUF. I tend to dislike guys that do a lot of talking. I'd prefer someone that does it in the ring and is gracious and somewhat humble outside of it. He does have quite a few guys to beat before he's given a shot at Silva although i did feel he beat Rashad Evans in his fight. And the decision with Hamill was a gift. He's good and has a bright future but Silva shouldn't be in the immediate anytime soon.
I missed his fight w/ Rashad. I heard it was pretty dull and could've gone either way. Bisping's striking is very sound technically. His wrestling and ju jitsu are also sound. However weak people say 185 is, there are a lot of guys in the division who are solid fighters that can beat anyone at anytime. Almeida is 1 guy who disappointed me since returning tho. Instead of Bisping coaching Tuf and getting the winner of Rich/Hendo for a possible title shot, he should have to fight Marquardt. If he beats Marquardt, then he can have a better argument for trying the Rich/Hendo winner.
