For those Texans fans angry at the team’s 4-4 record and demanding that coach Gary Kubiak be fired at the midway part of the season, it isn’t going to happen. “That’s not how we run this ship,†owner Bob McNair said Monday night. “Gary’s doing a good job. Replacing him doesn’t help you catch more balls.†After starting 2-0, including the season-opening victory over Indianapolis, the Texans have gone 2-4 and 2-3 at Reliant Stadium. A lot of fans blame Kubiak and want him fired even though he signed an extension through the 2012 season. “You’re always going to be criticized if you don’t win every game,†McNair said. “That’s just part of it. If you win, the criticism goes away. “I think he’s doing fine. He’s not out there making the blocks and catching the ball, and that’s what hurt us. If you replace the coach, will it be easier for the guy who missed the block to make it? I don’t think so. “If he was making bad decisions, if he wasn’t managing the team and if the players weren’t playing hard, that would be cause for concern. But our players are playing hard.†McNair hasn’t given up on the Texans’ preseason goal of reaching the playoffs for the first time, even though the team reached the halfway point this season one game worse than in 2009. Beginning with the second half of last season, the Texans lost four in a row and stood 5-7 before closing 4-0 and finishing 9-7, just missing the playoffs. “We have to look at it on the basis of what is our team doing and how do we go about improving our chances to be in the playoffs?†McNair said at the team’s Taste of the Texans event that raised $175,000 for the Houston Food Bank and Methodist Heart Research Center. “That’s what we focus on. “I’m disappointed we didn’t win Sunday (29-23 loss to San Diego) because we certainly could have. That’s the bad news. The good news is we’re 4-4, and we’re one game out of first place with half the season ahead of us.†Source: Houston Chronicle
I think he is a good offensive coodinator that happens to be head coach too. If Kubiak stays on as HC, then they to bring a really good DC because Frank Bush and his crew are not getting it done.
This all but guarentees he is getting fired at the end of the season. I wouldnt.......but I see the logic if they miss the playoffs However getting into the playoffs in the AFC is no easy task I hope they do fire him tho. We are going to need an OC, and him and Norv Turner (for my money the two best OC's of the last 20 years) could be available
