"The Braves are trying to fill their biggest need by trading for San Diego right-hander Jake Peavy, a top-tier major-league ace with a Cy Young award and a Southern drawl to boot. A person familiar with the talks said the Braves and Padres have discussed a potential blockbuster trade that would bring the Alabama native to Atlanta for a package that would include at least three Braves prospects.

Braves really like getting rid of there prospects, sent a bunch to Texas for Tex and now they wanna dump some more for Peavy. Peavy is a good pitcher.

There's a big difference between a good hitting first baseman (a dime a dozen these days) and a pitcher like Peavy. Not to mention that Tex was a one and a half year rental (who turned out to be only a one year rental) whereas Peavy is under contract for five more years. You'd have to be borderline insane to not give up prospects for the guy, as long as they're not asking for your whole farm system.

The Braves have a good shot at landing him, but my money is on St. Louis or Milwaukee. I believe St. Louis is on the list of teams he'd waive his NTC for and I don't see why Milwaukee wouldn't be. They fill the requirements of being an NL Contender. St. Louis has a big bargaining chip in Rasmus and the Brewers have a deep farm system, the ability to throw a guy like JJ Hardy into the deal and a drive that stems from losing their two best pitchers this offseason and the possibility of watching the window slam shut after finally making it back to the playoffs.

Yeah I hear ya... Teixeira is a top notch player though. If they gave up that much for a 1B I can only imagine what they will give up for an ACE like Peavy.

I heard last night that the Red Sox are going to go after him hard, too.

My guess is that it would have to start with Jurjjens and include an A-list spec or two. San Diego definitely is going to want a young pitcher with great potential in return. Could you imagine if St. Louis packaged Wainwright and Rasmus for him?:icon_eek: What a blockbuster that would be.

Losing any combination of those prospects would suck... lets see they gave up Salty, Elvis Andrus, Matt Harrison, Beau Jones, and Neftali Perez for Tex lol. All top prospects. I guess they don't mind butchering their minor league systems. Anyone who knows anything about MLB prospects knows what im talking about and how good these prospects are.

Burnout hit it on the head, Colby Rasmus....the supposed heir to Jim Edmonds. This kid will be a 5 tool major leaguer for a lot of years. With the depth of the Cardinal OF a couple of these guys are gonna have to go. Ankiel did a great job in CF with Ludwick in RF so Rasmus is almost expendable at this point.

And Roy, saying Peavy is a good pitcher is like saying water is damp......understatement of the year.

Of course they're going to. And so will the Yankees. I swear, if San Diego takes a deal involving either of those two teams and their extremely overhyped prospects, I'll puke. But, hell, the way teams give up stars to the Yankees, the headlines likely to read "Peavy To New York for Kennedy and a Bag of Balls".
