The Associated Press will decide later Monday whether it is going to change last year's selection of Houston Texans linebacker Brian Cushing as Defensive Rookie of the Year, a source told ESPN.com's John Clayton. Barry Wilner, who oversees the AP's balloting for its postseason awards, earlier had told ESPN.com's Tim Graham on Monday that the wire service was looking into whether to strip Cushing of the award. Cushing was suspended for the first four games in 2010 for violating the league's steroid policy. He was tested last September, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Cushing took and passed a lie-detector test to prove he was not guilty of taking a performance-enhancing drug, but his four-game suspension still stands, a league source told Schefter. Source: ESPN
Wow is all I have to say. So they are just drawing a line in the sand? Same thing happened four years ago with Merriman, Peppers before that I think. I think PED's are bullcrap and for guys that take shortcuts but this is bullcrap.
If he doesn't win the AP is going to catch hell. That is a horrible idea. Player Votes Brian Cushing, LB, Houston 39 Jairus Byrd, S, Buffalo 6 Clay Matthews III, LB, Green Bay 3 Brian Orakpo, LB, Washington 2 How can that change that dramatically?
The Associated Press will also conduct a re-vote for Cushing's All-Pro team honors. Matt Maiocco: Twitter.com
There is a chance that Cushing will retain his DROY honors, considering he won by 33 votes over Byrd, but unlikely in a landslide this time. Matthews could also gain some more votes as well as Orakpo. It would take alot for Cushing to lose his DROY in the re-vote, despite his positive test for performance enhancing drugs.
That's my point BBB. The AP is accomplishing nothing by doing this. It's just a BS dog and pony show for the public.
