The New England Patriots are coming to Chicago on Sunday, and Bears' linebacker Brian Urlacher says the local fans will see the best team in the league at Soldier Field. And he doesn't mean the Patriots. "New England is the best team in the NFL, record-wise," Urlacher told the Chicago Tribune. "But I feel like we're the best team, period. That's why I say record-wise. They have the best quarterback, numbers-wise. And everybody likes to go by numbers, right?'' Urlacher doesn't go by the numbers. He goes by what the Bears have accomplished when good teams have come to town, and he says that shows the Bears deserve to be considered the league's best team. "Remember, we have them at home ... the same like Philly,'' Urlacher said of the Bears beating the favored Eagles a couple weeks ago. "When we played Philly, everybody was saying they were the best, right? It's the same situation, and hopefully the same result." Right now, not many people would agree with Urlacher: Almost every NFL power ranking you'll see anywhere has the Patriots at No. 1, but if the Bears win on Sunday, Urlacher will have plenty of company in declaring them the best team in the league, period. Fixed. I normally have respect for Urlacher and his game, but I don't really see this posturing being any benefit to their team. IMO they're clearly not in the top 6 in the league, let alone what he claimed. Maybe come out and say "we're going to prove we're the best in the league." That's cool. But don't say it definitively because you're definitely not. Inspire them to improve, not be cocky. Just my $.02
Looking at my Power Rankings, there are seven other teams that have something to say as well :icon_twisted:
I bet he's not saying too much today after what the Pats did to them yesterday. It depends on what guidelines you're using to define "best." If you're talking Ws, then the Falcons are the best. If you're talking about points allowed, then the Packers are the best.
