The Detroit Lions are revamping their scouting system with help from a recent hire. Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press provides an interesting look at what ex-Denver Broncos general manager Brian Xanders is helping the club accomplish after he was brought on board as a senior personnel executive in January. Per the report, Xanders is creating a scouting database for the organization to use for college and pro scouting, giving the Lions unique software that should enhance the front office. “One thing that he’s doing, that he’s working on right now, is just working on developing our scouting database and creating a new database that’s sort of our own, designed by us, to give us the information that we want specifically for our scouting process in pro and college scouting,†general manager Martin Mayhew said, per Birkett. “He’s done that a couple times, a couple different franchises. He’s got a lot of experience in working with that.†Xanders has experience doing this work before and according to the story 18 of 32 NFL teams have their own original programming for this type of scouting assistance.
