Cleveland Browns coach Pat Shurmur is trying to buck history by joining Jim Schwartz as the only men in recent NFL history to prove that two bad years don’t make a doomed head coach, Steve Doerschuk of the Canton Repository reports. Shurmur has lost 13 of its last 14 games and incoming owner Jimmy Haslam and his staff will be evaluating how the team performs under Shurmur, but as Doerschuk points out, a coach who struggles for two years got nowhere when given a third year citing recent examples: Rod Marinelli, Dave Campo, Steve Mariucci, Dennis Green(with the Cardinals), Mike Singletary, Steve Spagnuolo, Raheem Morris, twinky LeBeau, Norv Turner(with the Raiders), Lane Kiffin, Jim Zorn, Eric Mangini(with the Browns) and Josh McDaniels. Any analysis of Shurmur beyond the record is a long story, but owners tend to speed read to the bottom line, Shurmur understands what that is. “We need to win,†he said on the Friday after the latest loss. “That’s when you develop the level of confidence that you can win.†Source: The Redzone
