Chudzinski announced on Monday that Hoyer would be the starter in Cleveland's Week 5 game against Buffalo on Thursday. However Chudzinski refused to commit to Hoyer beyond Week 5. "I think it's week-to-week," Chudzinski said. "Where we're at, I'm comfortable with." The reason Chudzinski's comfortable is because he has a starting quarterback who's 2-0 in his only two starts with the Browns. Source: CBSSports Sweets's Take: Name Hoyer the starter for the season already, we all know that Weeden isn't the QB they need, he's 0-2, go with who's winning for ya. What is Chud waiting for, we can only wonder.
Eh, that's a meaningless gesture at this point anyway. Even if you do say its him from here on out, you're still going to replace him if he blows for a while
What if he doesn't blow? What if he takes the Browns to the playoffs and wins a game while posting good numbers? Do the Browns wind up drafting a QB to replace him?
Then that's fine. Freaking awesome and incredible, actually. But it wouldn't be because they named him the starter for the rest of the year, it would be because he's a great football player. It's worked to this point, giving him motivation week to week. He looks like he wants to win, and has done it, more than freaking Weeden ever did. Physically they're both alright, but poise and leadership isn't what they're missing, and that's absolutely what a team like the Browns needs. Hoyer knows what he has to do to keep the job, and long term that's a hell of a lot. For now, I'd rather just not change things and focus on the Bills, particularly on a short week.
Hoyer could win the Super Bowl and I honestly think these guys in charge would be scouting QB exactly the same way. They're looking for the best ones wherever they are and think they can identify them, whether or not its true.
