Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden has taken as much of a beating by fans and media following Sunday's 23-10 loss to the Dolphins as he did by defenders during it, but coach Rob Chudzinski insists his quarterback will be given time to prove himself.

“I don’t look at it as a leash,'' said Chudzinski. "These guys are developing players and they’re learning how to play in this system and I expect us to keep getting better and improving.''

Chudzinski spread the blame around for the woeful offensive performance, one that included three interceptions by Weeden in the first half, six sacks and 16 quarterback hits. Weeden also fumbled once on a sack and his receivers dropped four passes. Right guard Oniel Cousins committed four of the team's nine penalties, and the offense converted only one of 14 third downs

According to profootballfocus.com, Weeden was pressured on more than half of his 53 attempts, and didn't fare well under duress: He completed five of 24 attempts for 76 yards with two interceptions for a 5.6 rating.

"The protection issues were there and that's something you have to contend with,'' said Chudzinski. "I thought Brandon had some ups and downs. I know there are some throws and some reads he’d like to have back. I think the one thing you saw yesterday, you saw his resiliency and toughness. If anybody had questions about that prior to this game, you look at the game and he’s pretty tough and kept bouncing back.''
