The Browns have hired former Carolina Panthers running backs coach John Settle, a league source confirmed today for the Beacon Journal.

The source spoke on condition of anonymity because the Browns have yet to announce the move. ProFootballScoop.com first reported the news this morning.

Settle spent the past two seasons with the Panthers, but coach Ron Rivera fired him in January. In Charlotte, N.C., Settle worked with new Browns coach Rob Chudzinski, who served as the Panthers’ offensive coordinator during the past two seasons.

Settle’s only other NFL coaching experience was with the Browns in 1995 and then the Baltimore Ravens from 1996-97 after the late Art Modell moved the franchise.
