Browns starting defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin sat out practice for the second consecutive day with an injured calf. If Rubin can’t play Sunday when the Browns (1-6) host the San Diego Chargers, rookie John Hughes would start in his place. Rubin has 20 tackles and one sack in six games this season. Hughes, a third-round pick in this year’s draft, has 16 tackles and a sack in seven games this season. Cornerback Dimitri Patterson (ankle), offensive linemen Ryan Miller (illness) and Jarrod Shaw (undisclosed) and linebacker Scott Fujita (neck) did not practice, either. Fujita will be placed on injured reserve, coach Pat Shurmur said. Source: Akron Beacon Journal
