The Browns used a second-round pick in Thursday’s supplemental draft to select former Baylor WR Josh Gordon, according to multiple reports. Cleveland forfeits its 2013 second-rounder to get the wideout. As PFW’s Nolan Nawrocki wrote, the Browns had targeted Gordon’s former teammate, WR Kendall Wright, with their 22nd pick in April’s draft but with Wright going to Tennessee, the Browns selected QB Brandon Weeden, now, Gordon provides another weapon for the rookie quarterback. Gordon (6-3 1/8, 224) possesses “athletic ability, big, very natural hands and prototype size,†Nawrocki wrote. “He needs considerable work on his release and has yet to adopt a professional work ethic. However, he showed he could be a big-play, vertical receiver in 2010, playing faster on the field than his low 4.5-timed speeds.â€Gordon has not played football for two years. that pick might have ended up being a top 35 pick if the browns were terrible this year, but gordon could have realistically been a top 35 talent himself next year....so its risky but not out of this world risky. I think gordon is gonna be a player, definitely something the browns have lacked at WR
They've got a really young corp now, and several years ago the Browns were the oldest team in the league across the board. At least one or more of them should be able to build a solid rapport with Weed(en). It probably spells the end for Carlton Mitchell though. I liked the guy's potential but he hardly ever saw the field.
Does anyone know if Ed Wesley was taken? He's a RB from TCU. Today's DMN was saying it was likely that Gordon and Wesley would be the only players taken today.
