Buccaneers CB Ronde Barber Says Tiki Barber "Needs Football Again"

  1. The longer the NFL lockout drags on, the harder it might be for 36-year-old RB Tiki Barber to stage a comeback after a four-season hiatus from the league. That could be more frustrating news for Barber in light of his petering broadcast career and a messy split with his wife off 11 years. "I think he's at a point in his life where he needs football again," Buccaneers CB Ronde Barber, Tiki's twin brother, said on NFL Network's NFL Total Access on Monday. "I think he's at a point in his life -- not his career, but his life -- where football would be the best thing for him. And I think he wants to come back. He sees me still doing this at a modestly high level I'd say. ... He's got some peers that are still doing it at our age, and I think he's ready. He's motivated to challenge himself and get back into the game that he loves most." Tiki Barber retired from the Giants after the 2006 season, a year when he rushed for 1,662 yards. The Giants' all-time leading rusher (10,449 yards in 10 years), Barber led the league in yards from scrimmage in 2004 and 2005 and averaged 2,204 combined rushing/receiving yards from 2004-06. "Retirement's hard (when) you walk away from this game (and) you leave a lot out there. It's a void that's not easily filled by TV or whatever else you might want to do," said Ronde Barber. "But I think he's ready for football; he's ready for football to be part of his life again."
