The Buccaneers placed running back Doug Martin on season-ending injured reserve with a torn labrum suffered in the Week 7 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

Neither the Bucs nor Martin can be blamed for exploring the possibility of rehabbing the injury and returning later in the season, but the stars never were aligned for that scenario.

SteveRobWhatever's Take: Martin finishes the 2013 season having compiled 456 yards and one touchdown on 127 carries over six games. If there's any good news to this story, it's that Mike James, who has taken over for Martin, had his best game as a pro last week, rushing for 158 yards on 28 carries vs. the Seahawks.
