On the heels of Buccaneers left tackle Donald Penn getting his long-awaited contract extension, attention has predictably turned to whether the Bucs have one in store for others — namely linebacker Barrett Ruud. For the short term, it’s becoming clear the answer is no. It remains to be seen how all this will go over with Ruud, the team’s 2005 second-round pick out of Nebraska who, for two consecutive days, has uncharacteristically not spoken with reporters.

  2. They gave the extension to the wrong player then. Ruud has become the heart and soul of that defense and has been a good leader.

So you are saying sign Ruud over a starting LT? With a 2nd QB? No thanks, the Bucs will get Ruud signed long term but it won't be this year.

but adam is right that they need to lock Ruud up too ............. he's been great for them. I can understand locking up a LT, and Penn is a decent LT that needed to be locked up (for no other reason than the fact that they have so many other holes to fill) ................

the worry that I think any Bucs fan should have is that the Bucs have been pretty cheap since their SB win and as long as Ruud is not locked up long-term, there is a chance they're going to let him go because they don't want to pay him and that would be a shame ..............

Agreed the Bucs HAD been cheap up until this year. They just spent over $100M for Penn and McCoy. Ruud will get a contract from the Bucs. A contract worth what he means to the team but, first things first. He just has to be patient.

true, there are indications that they may be changing and hopefully it will equal locking up Ruud to make him a life-long Buc.

  7. a starting LT that is an underachiever. We all know that Penn has had trouble with his weight and that has affected his ability. Although the Bucs backup LT, Demar Dotson, isn't a good player. (anyone ready to admit how bad Mark Dominick.

If I was Ruud I would move on. He has waited quite a long time already and now he is going to have to wait even longer.

    Dominick is a bad GM?

Have you seen what he's accomplished with the Bucs? And what other option did the Bucs have other then Penn? They signed him because they had to.

BTW, Penn's contract is LOADED with weight stipulations.

  9. yes

yes I've seen he completely scrapped their roster. Then made a few bad FA signings. Led them to a horrible record last year. The team doesn't look much better this year. Point being Dominick should have gotten a backup plan to Penn and he didn't. Don't even get me started on his drafts.

Well I will "get you started on HIS drafts"

    GO ahead, educate me.

  11. this year's draft seems to be alot better than last year's but obviously we won't know right now until the games start. His drafts weren't as bad as I remembered but weren't impressive in 09 and in 2010 look better. Your team still isn't close to competing in my opinion.

we're getting off track here. let's get back to talking about Ruud.

i think we all agree that Bucs fans want Ruud to be a lifelong Buc but he would garner a LOT of interest in the free agent market.
