Youve been picked to be the GM of an Expansion team. The Los Angeles 69ers You have to build this team from the ground up, and to start you are given.... Any 3 players currently under contract Any 3 Draft prospects Any 3 Free Agents Who do you pick, and why did you choose to build that way? Here is this years FA class http://www.footballsfuture.com/freeagents.html
Veterans Matthew Stafford Jake Long John Pierre Paul Free Agents Mario Williams Carl Nicks Paul Soliai Draft Morris Claiborn Justin Blackmon David Decastro I got my proven young franchise QB (thought Luck for a sec) and then decided to build dominate lines. JPP and Williams are both young athletic freak DE that would easyily be the best pass rush duo in the NFL, and while Soliai isnt a sexy name, he'll anchor against the run and push the pocket so the QB cant step up On the otherside, I went young and dominate with Long and Nicks and took one of the most sound prospects in the draft in Decastro giving me the start of what will be a dominant offensive line I thought about vet skill players (CB, WR and HB), but I went in the direction of making both trench's starong in passing on guys like Megatron and Revis. Since in in it for the long haul, I felt good about going with Rooks Blackmon and Claiborn
I have 125 contracts to assemble and send out tomorrow. Jihad Joe is my worst enemy at this moment! :icon_evil: But it'll be fun! VINCE YOUNG FTW!
I assume by "John Pierre Paul" you mean Jason? This intrigues me. Honestly though I'm so disappointed right now though I don't know if I want to think about football that hard. Very good idea for a thread though. I'll probably be back in to do this.
Haloti Ngata Calvin Johnson Ndamakong Suh Carl Nicks Ben Grubbs Mario Williams Andrew Luck Matt Kalil Trent Richardson My big 3 on offense would be Luck, Calvin, and Richardson and together they would feed on the children of the oppsing team. Matt Kalil has all world ability and potential to be a top 3 franchise LT and with monsters like grubbs and nicks working the inside not only would richardson run at will but kalils job would be so much easier in his transition process. With a dline of Ngatam Suh, and mario williams it quite simply wouldnt matter whats scheme i ran (34 or 43) so depending on who i could find at LB would decide that. But i would have Suh play NT and Ngata and Williams at end in a 34....ngata is already the best DE in the 34 world and id have mario play DE similar to how bruce smith did. In a 43 it wouldnt even matter who the other DE was, with Suh and Ngata inside and Mario on the right...a dead body would work at LE Schematically undecided though...LB skill set goes a long way to determining what i would do but with a front 3 like that the corners and safeties really dont have to be anything special my 69ers would dismantle Jihad Joe 's squad...2 players are gonna have to go both ways during that game but i think ill maximize nicks and mario's potential better than JJ
If your gonna play Williams like Bruce Smith you'll beed to play Ngata at NT, Suh isnt big enough. Not saying he should be on your team but you really want a Terrance Cody type if you want to run that type of 3-4 front. Wade Phillips used his DE's (Smith and Hansen) like 4-3 DE's lined up on the OT's outside shoulder. The reason he could get away with this is he had all 380 LBS or Ted Williams, the greatest 3-4 NT in NFL history inside. Williams was basicly a 3 gap NT. You could defininatly line up Williams like that with Ngata, but Suh isnt gonna be big enough. However Suh at 5 Tech, Ngata in the middle and Williams at 5 is pretty freaking dominate Good show young man
the rest of my team will be all white guys though. The safeties will not be considered ballhawks or big hitters but rather "smart" and having "good insticnts" the WRs wont be burners but they will be "more quick than fast" and "run good routes" the LBs will also be smart and spend much time in the film room studying the opposing teams tendencies. Again not overly explosive but tough and good in traffic. and we will have 1 cornerback, and his name will be jason sehorn
Under Contract: -Calvin Johnson -DeMarcus Ware -Haloti Ngata Free Agents: -Mario Williams -Ray Rice -Carl Nicks Rookies: -Andrew Luck -Matt Kalil -Michael Floyd Once I looked at this thread I knew my team was going to end up looking similar to KTrain's. No reason not to take Luck, and although I had Joe Thomas pegged-in, Kalil has All-Pro potential. Even if Luck is pressured a lot, Megatron gives him a catch-anything release. Ngata was the first player I chose, he, Williams and Ware would be plenty to lock down a 34 at first. Rice won't see free agency but I made the cheap move and took him. The offense is entirely a work-in progress but has plenty of playmakers to help it evolve. I especially would love to see Calvin teaching the ropes to Floyd.
Vets: JPP Calvin Johnson Maurkice Pouncey FA's: Carl Nicks Mario Williams Calais Campbell Draft Picks: Andrew Luck Matt Kahlil Morris Claiborne I went a little younger, I like Luck more then Stafford so i took the youngest franchise QB available. I give him a legit #1 target in Megatron, a prototype young LT to grow with, a stud LG and a young stud C. Ideally i wouldnt take a C w/this little picks but i went all in with youth and i love Pouncey and he's only 22. Defensively i'll run a system 3-4 scheme w/4-3 principles on passing downs similar to the Ravens. Williams will play the elephant position. JPP will play opposiste him, he's athletic enough where i can have him make some zone drops, jam some TE's, etc. I wanted a big space eating nose but came down to free agency and i couldnt leave campbell sitting there. I love Claiborne in off man and press coverage.
Under contract: Aaron Rodgers Mega Joe Thomas FA: Mariariario Nicks Ray Rice Draft: Kirkpatrick DeCastro Coples
Under Contract: Calvin Johnson Ndamakong Suh Joe Thomas FA's: Drew Breesus Matt Forte Desean Jackson Draft: Matt Kalil Devon Still Quinton Couples I went in a bit of a Boston Red Sox/NYY win now mode for this. Decided that picking up a proven QB to go with my sick offense would be the best mode to win now. That's why even though Brees probably only has 4 or 5 years left I chose him as my QB, in that time I could pick up a Franchise QB and groom them under veteran leadership. Brees with Desean Jackson and Megatron would easily carve up any offense and adding Matt Forte would assure clock management when I jumped out to a 15-20 point lead on the opposition. After that I focused on bolstering the offense and defensive lines through the draft and proven players assuring that Brees would be safe and the opposing QB would not be safe. This league is all about QB's and offense now and I have QB stopping ability and the best offense I think I could come up with. I predict my 69ers would finish 11 and 5 and average 30 ppg. Pretty good if you ask me. But maybe not haha.
Im surprised alot of guys going Luck over Stafford. Stafford may be the best 23 year old QB in NFL history
ive loved stafford since day one, but i think luck is a sure enough player to let me take 2 big time dline players as far as current vets go. I think dline prospects have a higher bust potential than luck
