Didn't see it here on the Saints board so I'll bring it up. Bum Phillips passed away in his Goliad home. He was 90. I know he didn't duplicate the same success in New Orleans like he did in Houston, but he definitely was a favorite among fans and players. Bum showed up after the debacle that was the 1980 season that saw the Saints win 1 game. His 5 seasons in New Orleans saw the Saints field a competitive team that had a top 5 defense just about every year he was there. He is also credited with laying the foundation for the success of Jim Mora and the Dome Patrol in the late 80s and early 90s by drafting such players like Rickey Jackson, Eric Martin and Bobby Hebert. On the flip side, he's also the coach that traded away Archie Manning for a Offensive Tackle that played all of 1 season in New Orleans. He was also criticized for his ultra-conservative offensives and bringing in players like Earl Campbell and Kenny Stabler when it was obvious their best years were behind them.
pissed me off that he traded George Rodgers and brought in Earl. He did bring in some talent to New Orleans.
