Caleb Moore, an innovative freestyle snowmobile rider who was hurt in a crash at the Winter X Games in Colorado, died Thursday morning. He was 25. Moore was being treated at a hospital in Grand Junction since the Jan. 24 crash. Family spokeswoman Chelsea Lawson confirmed his death, the first in the 18 year history of the X Games, which are produced by ESPN. "He lived his life to the fullest. He was an inspiration," Lawson said. A former all-terrain vehicle racer, Moore switched over to snowmobiles as a teenager and quickly rose to the top of the sport. He won four Winter X Games medals, including a bronze last season when his younger brother, Colten, captured gold. Caleb Moore was attempting a backflip in the freestyle event in Aspen when the skis on his 450-pound snowmobile caught the lip of the landing area, sending him flying over the handlebars. Moore landed face first into the snow with his snowmobile rolling over him. Moore stayed down for quite some time, before walking off with help and going to a hospital to treat a concussion. Moore developed bleeding around his heart and was flown to a hospital in Grand Junction for surgery. The family later said that Moore, of Krum, Texas, also had a complication involving his brain. The X Games need to reduce the dangerousness in them. I would not want my son to participate in them unless they increase safety............see what I did there =P
Apparently neither did he. Youth isn't wasted on the young anymore. They're racing the older ones to the grave nowadays.
did you guys see the wreck? i'm shocked it did not kill him on the spot! he smashed into the ground and the snowmobile landed on him! one of the worst sports accidents i have ever seen, maybe the worst!
ESPN showed it over and over again. I've seen people walk away from alot worse, Caleb just wasn't as lucky. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCMiHILA6lo]Caleb Moore's Died After Crash X Games Aspen 2013 - YouTube[/ame]
Yea I didn't think it looked particularly bad. Must have caught him just in the wrong spot though. Really unlucky and terrible.
I've seen crashes where the snowmobile, dirt bike, etc land on guys and they walk away. This was just a case of getting hit in the wrong spot.
