As you all may or may not know from my signature, I host a Chicago Bears Podcast called the Chicago Bears Review. Well this week I am doing an episode reviewing the first half of the season and handing out awards as well. I just wanted to get some input on who Bears fans (or non-Bears fans as well) thought was deserving on each of these awards. I would appreciate your help so it all just doesnt come down to me. Here are the categories you can vote on for the first half review awards: --Sweetness Award for top running back (QB or RB) --Ditka Award for top received (WR or TE) --Covert Award for top offensive linemen --Hampton Award for top defensive linemen (DE or DT) --Butkus Award for top linebacker --Fencik Award for top defensive back (CB or S) --Butthead Award for top kicker (K or P) --Enis/McNown/Benson Award for biggest disappointment --Dent Award for biggest surprise --Grabowski Award for top coach --Papa Bear Award for Most Valuable Bear of first half You can post your thought here obviously, or you can send your votes via e-mail to chicagobearsreview@yahoo.com, post them on the Chicago Bears Review Facebook group page or add them as a comment to the episode itself on the show's homepage chicagobearsreview.mypodcast.com. However you do it, be sure and have your votes in by Wednesday. I am planning on doing the show on Thursday morning. Thanks in advance for all of your help.
Hmmm, this is a good idea. I'll take a day and think about who I think deserves what award so far. One question though. Is this just for Bears players or around the league?
If it can be any player from any team, here are my answers... --Sweetness Award for top running back (QB or RB) - Clinton Portis --Ditka Award for top received (WR or TE) - Andre Johnson --Covert Award for top offensive linemen - The Redskins O-Line...all 5... --Hampton Award for top defensive linemen (DE or DT) - Albert Haynesworth --Butkus Award for top linebacker - Joey Porter --Fencik Award for top defensive back (CB or S) - Troy Polamalu --Butthead Award for top kicker (K or P) - Sav Rocca --Enis/McNown/Benson Award for biggest disappointment - Larry Johnson --Dent Award for biggest surprise - Matt Forte --Grabowski Award for top coach - Jeff Fisher --Papa Bear Award for Most Valuable Bear of first half - Matt Forte/Kyle Orton
To me he is. I knew Orton would be the Bears QB. Called it during training camp. I thought Forte would be good but not nearly as good as he is...
This is just for my Bears show, so if you could, just keep this to the Bears. but please feel free to start a similar thread for the rest of the league. But this thread was meant to see what Bears deserve which awards.
Ok, here are my votes if this is for the Bears. Sweetness Award for Top for top running back: (QB or RB): Matt Forte Ditka Award for top received (WR or TE): Greg Olsen Covert Award for top offensive lineman: Olin Kreutz Hampton Award for top defensive lineman (DE or DT): Alex Brown/Dusty Dvoracek Butkus Award for top linebacker: Lance Briggs Fencik Award for top defensive back (CB or S): Cory Graham/Kevin Payne Butthead Award for top kicker (K or P): Brad Maynard Enis/McNown/Benson award for biggest dissapointment: Devin Hester (yes, you are reading that right. It seems like Hester doesn't put as much effort into his returns. So he gets my vote) Dent Award for biggest suprise: Bears Offense Grabowski Award for top coach: OC Ron Turner (the offense isn't centered around one player) Papa Bear Award for most valuable Bear of first half: Matt Forte/Kyle Orton
--Sweetness Award for top running back (QB or RB) Matt Forte --Ditka Award for top received (WR or TE) Greg Olsen --Covert Award for top offensive linemen :the whole O-line --Hampton Award for top defensive linemen (DE or DT) N/A --Butkus Award for top linebacker N/A --Fencik Award for top defensive back (CB or S) Charles Tillman --Butthead Award for top kicker (K or P) Gould --Enis/McNown/Benson Award for biggest disappointment: the Pass Defense --Dent Award for biggest surprise: the O-Line --Grabowski Award for top coach Lovie Smith --Papa Bear Award for Most Valuable Bear of first half :Matt Forte
Hester doesn't put as much effort into his returns because the special teams aren't nearly as good as they were a couple seasons ago... he doesn't have any running lanes, not to mention he's running routes all the time, so he's more focused on the offense, which is a very good thing!
I think the more maddening thing is that we have played well this year. We just haven't played well when it counts.....like in the 4th quarter of the Carolina and Tampa Bay games and the final ELEVEN F*@#$NG SECONDS OF THE ATLANTA GAME!!! With those three games, all of which should have been won by the Bears, they are 9-3 and in line for a #2 seed in the NFC. Instead we are 6-6 and pretty much have to win out to make the playoffs.
Wow what a game! Kyle clutched it up and so did Devin when he tricked the DB into the pass interference. That stand on fourth and inches where our D swarmed Thomas was the best I’ve seen them do since the goal line stand against Philly.
Yup, it's hard to believe the Bears should be 11-3 right now. If we don't make the playoffs, i'll point to the games against Carolina, Tampa Bay, and Atlanta like you already pointed out. I wanted to shoot Orton when he threw that interception to Fujita in the 4th quarter. Orton did a great job making up for that.
I think I would have been more inclined to shoot Ron Turner for calling pass plays when we should have been running the ball. Forte barely touched the ball all night and at the time, the Saints only had one time out. We get a couple of first downs and the game would have been over in regulation.
what is eating at me is,how come we never have a second half Offense..we seem to lose it in the 3rd and 4th quarters..its like we are another team come back from half time... also what was Ron (Tina) Turner thinking calling a pass play when we where winning with some thing like 3 minutes left in the game..all we needed to do was run the clock down...oh no..lets throw a freaking INT instead...:fu13:
