Cam Newton didn't approach 400 yards passing on Sunday or look nearly as sharp as his previous two games, but the rookie shined when it mattered the most. Newton completed a late touchdown pass to tight end Greg Olsen to give the Panthers (1-2) their first victory of the season 16-10 over the Jacksonville Jaguars on a waterlogged day at Bank of America Stadium. Carolina's defense, playing without Jon Beason and Thomas Davis, was strong other than mistake on a pseudo Hail Mary pass at the end of the first half by Blaine Gabbert. Greg Hardy and Terell McClain combined on a safety early in the game and allowed only one other field goal after a special teams miscue. They also held the Jaguars on their last two series to secure the win.
