A retirement press conference is planned for Cardinals QB Kurt Warner on Friday, according to a source with knowledge of the situation, with the star also likely to discuss future post-playing plans. Warner, who was pounded hard several times during a playoff loss to the Saints, will retire as one of the most prolific passers of his era, and someone who led two franchises to the Super Bowl. His departure leaves former first-round pick Matt Leinart as the starter in Arizona for now, he has struggled thus far in his career. Source: NFL.com
Selfishly, I'm not happy about this news, but Kurt is getting to leave on top with a lot of gas left in the tank and he'll classily retire without a bunch of indecisive drama. So few players get to exit that way. Next stop... The Pro Football Hall of Fame.
He probably saw what the Saints did to Favre and realized that teams now know the formula for beating an old QB. Good for Warner, he was always a class act.
Well good for him, he has been contemplating retiring since Boldin took that big hit last season so this wasn't a shocker. But i sure feel bad for the Cardinals and them having to go to Matt Leinart an over-hyped college QB that will be another bust in the NFL. They will probably try to see if McNabb is available and see if they can get a trade going
The concussion he got during the Rams game was the hit that started all the retirement talk. That he could not play the next week because his reaction times were hampered really changed his tone about the future. Incredibly strong family guy that doesn't want his kids raised by a vegetable. That said, I'm like hh in that I didn't see it coming although the media has been messaging the story for months. He was adamant that he wanted to play two more years when he resigned last year. And his competitive fire..............? Well, it's second to none. If he does announce his retirement, kudos to him for giving the Cards a lot of advanced notice. Leinart may 'deserve' the start, but don't count on it.
Kurt's a guy that has plenty left in the tank...but he's a family man and family comes first. He wants to drive that mini-van with his 7 kids in the back and remember he's doing it. He'll wind up on the radio or on TV immediately following. Easy Hall of Famer.
