Carolina Panthers coach John Fox said for the first time Wednesday that being in the final year of his contract heading into the 2010 season is not an ideal situation. “It’s got its ups as well as its downs,†he said Wednesday at the close of a one-hour media breakfast with NFC coaches. “It probably wouldn’t be my preference, but I’m not freaked out about it.†The Panthers haven’t offered Fox a new deal and his assistant coaches also aren’t under contract beyond next season. Asked why team officials have chosen to allow the entire coaching staff to be working on a one-year basis, Fox said: “I have no idea," Fox is scheduled to make around $6million this season, according to sources.
