CBS Sports Analyst Boomer Esiason Says There's No Respect For Tim Tebow As A QB

Discussion in 'Denver Broncos' started by BigBlueBruiser, Nov 1, 2011.

  1. There is no middle ground with Tim Tebow. Everybody agrees that he's a great person with an impressive college resume, but with each start, it's also evident that he's not an NFL quarterback. After a dreadful effort against the Lions Sunday, the media scrutiny has intensified (turns out, it's possible). The latest to weigh in: Former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason, who works as an analyst for CBS' The NFL Today and also hosts a radio show on WFAN. “(Starting Tebow) is a bad move for two reasons,†Esiason said Monday, via CBS New York (listen to the audio here). “One is, I don’t believe that Tim Tebow knows what he’s doing on the football field. … Number two, those hits that are coming his way are coming with authority. Meaning that players are out to get him.†Esiason, who before the season was critical of Tebow's prospects as an NFL quarterback, said that Tebow Mania may have unwittingly made him a target. “The mocking by the Detroit Lions and all the talk after the game and all that other stuff leads me to believe that people are after him,†he said. “In all the years that I’ve covered and played in professional football, I have never seen a team like the Detroit Lions do what they did last week,†Esiason said. “It just means that there’s no respect for Tim Tebow as the quarterback. And they want to make sure that when they play him, they want to show that to the world that Tim Tebow can not play in this league at this position.â€

It's pretty clear that guys are out to get him. And teams know that if they pressure him he can't make decisions quick enough to beat them. So it's a tough combination of guys getting plenty of opportunities to hit him and wanting to heck him up.

Pretty brave behind a telephone just like the rest of the NFL media heckwads. Why not invite Tebow on your show and ask him these questions and give your opinion to his face?

I know he doesn't have a very good chance to stick in the NFL, but be a man about calling him out. The only reason this rodheads are doing this through the media is because they know he's not gonna respond publicly.

Boomer tells me I don't know what I'm doing on a football field to my face I'd probably go all Chris Everett......oops Jim Everett on his snitch butt.

Yea I thought that was pretty harsh. To say he doesn't know what he's doing on a field is a little extreme. Tebow is a great football player, just not a good NFL QB.

Doesn't hurt to at least give the guy a shot to see what he's got. It's the NFL...stranger things have happened than a college star actually turning out to be a good player.

I think he's the type that's gotta sit for a while before playing. Throwing him in the fire just isn' gonna do it for him. He looks terrible.

players are upset that he is getting special treatment. By that I mean getting to start and not winning the job. That sets a bad precedent. Starting someone who apparently didn't win the starting job by competition. Everyone else had to win it or at least move up in the depth charts by working their asses off in practice. So yes, I believe they are putting some "hot sauce" on their hits. I sorta feel for the guy. He didn't ask for all this. I believe the fans should be ashamed of themselves for putting the pressure on him like they have. Tebow had a wealth of talent around him in college. If you can be honest with yourself think about this. Would he have been so successful if he went to say Vandy or Kentucky? I don't think so. Meyer also had something to do with his winning. Different game in college. You usually have one or two college per team that may make a pro roster. In the NFL everyone is fast and everyone is fast. He should have went the route of sitting for a few years and get his footwork and delivery improved before this bedlam.

Special treatment? He didn't get awarded the starting job. Orton stunk it up. Tebow's a former (lol) first round pick. They're just seeing what they got in Timmy.

but he went from #3 to starting. That to me is special treatment. Like I said earlier he is the only one under contract next year so they want to see what he has in order to decide to pick another qb.

well, obviously, everyone knows teams are going game-plan to shut down the broncos running game and make tebow beat them with his arm until he proves that he can consistently read NFL defenses and pass the ball accurately. Boomer is just piling on at this point.
