It's far from a crisis, but Dolphins rookie head coach Joe Philbin is facing a bit of a backlash with his handling of the Chad Johnson situation. At least one prominent Dolphins player isn't happy Philbin decided to jettison the controversial wide receiver after his arrest on domestic violence charges. "I hate that we didn't stand behind him," linebacker Karlos Dansby said Monday in an interview with WMEN-AM radio in Miami (via NFL.com). "I know the guys in the locker room would. But the organization felt a totally different way about the situation, and they probably had more information than we know. And they had to do what they had to do." Dansby says the drama won't stop with Johnson's exodus, at least in the short term. "It's going to be an even bigger distraction right now, I think, because of the simple fact we let him go," Dansby said. "I think if we were going to be with the guy, if he was going to be our guy, we have to stand behind him—even though the situation came about. He didn't get that third strike." Dansby described Johnson as a good teammate who was well-liked in the Dolphins locker room. Source: Sporting News
why would a team stand behine a players that got arrested for domestic violence?? They already were taking a chance with him when they signed him. I think this showed them how much trouble he really is on and off the field
This is the first time Chad's name has ever been in a police blotter (atleast from what I can remember) but I can understand where Joe Philbin is coming from.
Stupid decision. Seems like they got caught up in emotion instead of thinking through it logically. The man was a starter for them and it's not like they have a good backup option.
Philbin told Johnson after his profanity ridden press conference that he needs to represent the organization, and getting arrested broke the camel's back.
I'd be waking to bet his release goes beyond just this "head butt" incident. You can see just from the first episode of Hard Knocks that he lacks respect for Philbin. Does anyone think he'd walk into a meeting that Belichick was holding and sit down? Highly doubt it...he's a clown and most likely done in the NFL.
Sorry to hear about his domestic violence charge; but he was gone in less than 24 hours. My gut feeling tells me Chad Johnson will get picked up by another team and have a longer career than the head coach. He's is stiffer than a mannequin under an elephant!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
When you pick up a Chad Ocho Cinco, you know what you are getting. He doesn't hide his antics. It's not like a TO or a Plaxico who can and have toed the line. He is now and always will be a head case. From a coaches POV, you have to set that kid down and tell him exactly what you like and don't like about his extra activities. What will and what won't work. That said, as a player, you know that getting arrested isn't gonna work for anyone.... Well I won't be surprised if the Raiders don't take a shot with him.
Marv Lewis don't want none of that. This would be the point where someone attaches the Raiders name to an over the hill head case veteran... Some writer tried to attach the Jets to Johnson. Same guy who said the Jets were signing Manning, signing Moss, said Schotty was staying, said the Hets would trade Wayne Hunter and claimed the Jets will be using Tebow as a punt and kick returner. lol...needless to say, he's a moron writer...
And here's the 911 call to the police from the next door neighbor. Chad Johnson, Evelyn Lozada 911 call released by police - NFL.com
Is it the actual call? I find it kind of funny that the NFL is putting that on their website if that's what it is...
