Chan Gailey Envisions Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick As The Starter In 2011

Discussion in 'Buffalo Bills' started by BigBlueBruiser, Nov 24, 2010.

  1. Buffalo Bills fans have been torn about their desires over winning versus securing the No. 1 draft choice and the chance to grab Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck. Bills head coach Chan Gailey on Wednesday delivered strong comments about Ryan Fitzpatrick being his quarterback beyond this season. "Today, there's no way I can envision that," Gailey replied when asked about the possibility Fitzpatrick won't start next year. To a follow-up question about that vote of confidence, Gailey added, "That would be kind of dumb not to think that, the way the guy's played. He's played extremely well. How would you not think that?" Gailey's comments came on Fitzpatrick's 28th birthday, but the praise wasn't a gift. "Hey, I don't give anything away," Gailey said. "Guys earn it. He's earned it." Fitzpatrick began the season as Trent Edwards' backup. In eight games, Fitzpatrick has completed 59 percent of his passes for 1,961 yards and 18 touchdowns with nine interceptions.

i kinda envision chan gailey as unemployed in 2011.

if they end up with the top pick they will clearly pass on luck for fitzpatrick though....i mean passing on orakpo and oher for maybin, passing on everything they need for spiller, even reaching for whitner over about 30 better players...not to mention trading away peters. they suck

I think in this situation though, you have what you need in a Fitzpatrick. QB officially becomes one of your least worries, and you begin working on defense and your offensive line.

    Crowned Doesn't give a shit.

He's getting the job done right now, they aren't winning but the passing offense should be the least of their worries.

not if luck is on the board...no way you pass on a franchise QB like him just to roll with ryan fitzpatrick, an NFL journeyman at best

I sure hope everyone in that organization sees Fitzpatrick as the future. I want those QBs on the board when the Vikings pick.

the bills actually have a lot more pressing needs than qb so regardless of where they pick, they shouldn't be picking qb

I don't see that though. Of all the needs of the Bills, no player so far has the value a QB gives them early on.

passing on a potential franchise QB of lucks caliber in favor of fitzpatrick would be one of the bigger draft blunders of my lifetime

They did pass on Orakpo and Oher for Maybin and passed on guys like Morgan, D. Williams, Clausen, and Bryant for Spiller.

and ngata and cutler for donte whitner, but when a franchise is in utter shambles and needs to be rebuilt you pretty much have to go with the franchise QB if theres one on the board. hes a once in a while kind of player, while you have to admire what fitzpatrick has done...hes a backup, a damn good one, but still a backup. there will be too much pressure from the fans to pass on luck if they are sitting there

Oh I agree. But it is the Bills and draft blunders seem to be the name of the game for them.
