Though no decision has been made, or at least announced, a source familiar with the thinking of Chargers president Dean Spanos said Sunday that Spanos is leaning toward retaining general manager A.J. Smith. The Chargers failed to reach the playoffs for the second straight year this season, finishing with an 8-8 record by defeating the Oakland Raiders 38-26 on Sunday. Multiple team sources have said that Spanos is almost certain to fire head coach Norv Turner, but his assessment of Smith seem less damning. When contacted by telephone after Sunday's game, Smith said he considers his job status uncertain and that he's waiting for Spanos to make a final decision. It should come soon. "Dean thinks about things at the end of the season, as do I," Smith said. "We'll have our answer soon." Source: North County Times
he is horrible at handling GM duties. just make him your main personnel guy and bring in someone else to handle contracts, coaching hires, etc.
Smith needs to go too or Spanos should sell the team while he can still get something for it. If I were a season ticket holder for the Chargers, I would be demanding a refund unless they fired Smith as well as Turner.
