  1. Eric Weddle and the San Diego Chargers have agreed to a deal that sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter is historic for a safety. Weddle will receive $40 million, including $19 million in guarantees, over five years. It is the biggest contract ever given to a safety, according to sources. "The Chargers stepped up," Weddle' agent, David Canter, told ESPN.com's Bill Williamson. "I can't say enough about that organization." His agreement comes a day after the Chargers kept right tackle Jeromey Clary and tight end Randy McMichael and signed veteran inside linebacker Takeo Spikes. The team agreed to terms with veteran safety Bob Sanders prior to the lockout.
