When the Chiefs reconvened Monday after their bye week, coach Andy Reid didn’t have to say a word or warn his team about hazing in the locker room.

Aside from rookies carrying veterans shoulder pads up the hill at training camp, the Chiefs have a no-hazing policy.

“We’re not a hazing team, we don’t encourage that,â€￾ Reid said in his first comments to reporters since the Richie Incognito-Jonathan Martin saga in Miami became national news last week. “That’s just not how we operate.â€￾

markaz's Take: Time to dig through the internet and find the positions of every team on the topic of hazing. Didn't really expect anything different from Reid and the KC organization.

Pretty sure all kinds of hazing will be exposed. Wonder where the line will be drawn between "pranks" and "hazing." I'm sure the media will see no difference.

I believe Tony Dungy had the same policy when he was a head coach.

This is something that's been passed down through the Walsh tree, he likely got it from Holmgren who certainly got it from Walsh. Walsh was always very adamant about not allowing "hazing" or harassment in the locker room, I remember a quote from him saying something to the effect of rookies had been through enough to make it into the league, there's no reason to make it any more difficult for them to succeed than it already is. I'll see if I can find the actual quote, but I'd have to say that policy worked out pretty damn good. There weren't many, if any, who had more success through the draft than he.

Hazing Rituals probably go back to the beginnings of the league.I know that george halas was a fan of hazing by making rookies sing their college's fight song, beyond that who knows?

It's hard to imagine they can completely eliminate hazing when a lot comes from the fact that the new guys are ultimately the ones to take their jobs or jobs of their friends. Throw in some jealousy over what some of these guys make coming in without ever playing a snap.

We'll still see the media keeping this in the headlines for a long time to come...
