While he still looks for an offensive coordinator to replace Bill Muir, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel plans on continuing to work in the dual role he held late last season as interim head coach, Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star reports. "It worked well at the end of the year in the three games that we played," Crennel said. "I’ve got good coaches, and we had good chemistry. I would like to not change that chemistry. If I can keep those guys together and we can work the way we’ve worked in the past, I think we’ll be a competitive defense and get some things done." Chiefs defensive backs Emmitt Thomas has coordinator experience and was rumored to be a candidate for the defensive coordinator position on Dennis Allen's coaching staff with the Oakland Raiders. Thomas is staying in Kansas City, however, and while Crennel will continue to run the defense and call the plays, it might make sense to add defensive coordinator to Thomas' title so as to not overload Crennel's plate. "I’m not saying that was a mistake," Crennel said of not calling the plays when he was a first-time head coach. "It was a different situation. That was the first time I was a head coach, and there were a lot of things you had to deal with. This time, already having head coaching experience, it’s going to be easier for me to handle. The first time, it would have been much tougher for me to do that."
